Officially the People’s Republic of China. There are many languages in China but the de facto official language is Chinese or Standard Mandarin (I think there are political issues about which term is used). Within China I believe that local dialects can be mutually unintelligible but the written language will be read by anyone. In China that is written in a simplified syllabic character set, in other parts of the world it may be written in the simplified or the traditional, more complex, set and dialect/language variations can be considerable.
