Wales (Cymru)

Here are the links I am putting in all these country pages.

Wales is one of the four countries making up the United Kingdom and I call myself “romantically Welsh” as I’m 7/8 genetically Welsh but wasn’t born there, never really lived there (OK, a few years just over the border in Hawarden when I was I think three to six years old!) I do feel a funny identity and that probably motivated me to try to get Welsh translations done early … but enough about me. Wales is a multicultural, multilingual country now but the indigenous language is Welsh though it’s a minority language now. It’s a Celtic language, very different from English which is the dominant language. There are big differences between Welsh in North and in South Wales and big differences between formal and everyday spoken Welsh. The translations of the CORE-OM and shortened adult forms and of the YP-CORE sought, with a lot of work from many native speakers, to get a translation acceptable for everyday use and OK for both regions. You can get the PDFs below. There has recently been some interest in translating the LD-CORE, probably both the LD-CORE-30 and the LD-CORE-14, into Welsh. Watch this space (more realistically, sign up to the CORE update Email list!)
