Croatia has one official language: Croatian. I had two lovely trips to Croatia, both to Zagreb, the first to facilitate the translation of the CORE-OM and YP-CORE and the second to a STAR conference. Since then CORE has been widely used in Croatia.
In a programme managed by the Croatian Institute of Public Health the YP-CORE has, since 2022, been in standard use for annual health checks of children and adolescents. The feedback has been positive for children over 11 years old but a proportion of the 10/11 years old children find it somewhat difficult to understand and complete on their own. That makes sense to me as I’ve long thought that comprehension of the YP-CORE and similar measures is not a simple function of age but such that some children aged perhaps even younger than 10 will find it fine to understand and meaningful to them whereas some 12 year olds even may find it neither easy to understand nor immediately meaningful. My limited experience with this age range suggests to me that this is much more about family context, education and socioeconomic situation than simply about age. The CORE-OM and CORE-10 are widely used in services and research projects and have supported a growing number of publications.
