A long overdue update about CORE (sent 6/12/2024)

Ouch. As far as I can see, despite my believing I had tested it, the send earlier today went out with nothing in the body of the Email. It started:
“Well this is the first update since June 2022 so you can see that I am not going to overload your in trays!”
and here I am sending two Emails in an hour. I trust it will never happen again.

CORE developments

I am sure I am forgetting important things but I think this covers the most important events since that last update.

  • This list has moved twice since then: mailchimp restricted its free offering and, as CORE brings no income, I couldn’t afford to stay. I went to maillerlite but they were messy so now I am on fluentCRM and we are up 598 on the list!
  • A huge development is that, with vital support from UDLA (Universidad de Las Américas) in Quito we now have 28 of the 32 completed translations of the CORE-OM with all the short forms and, where the language is gendered, in two or three gendered versions so we are nearing the point at which the web site is the definitive source of all those translations and you should be able to pull them all in zip files from here.
  • Since 2022 the CORE-OM has been translated into Setswana and the YP-CORE has been translated into Swedish.
  • New translations of the CORE-OM into Swahili and Dholuo are starting in Kenya and a translation of the YP-CORE into German is starting from Germany.
  • The CORE web site is getting around 400 views a day.
  • As of September 2022 the CORE instruments are all in the MAPI Trust repository. They will always be available without fees as long as users comply with the Creative Commons licence but being in the huge MAPI repository means that they will also be available there (see e.g. here) if it ceases to be possible to run the main CORE site. MAPI also provide an excellent translation service so if new translations are needed they can be done through them (for very reasonable fees which vary according to the funding, i.e. more for commercial companies, less for researchers and services).
  • I have created a shiny app that gives you the appropriate CSC (and hence CSC classification) given a YP-CORE score, age and gender. It allows use of lookup tables for the CSC for the UK and Ireland and for Italy. See also my Rblog post: CSC by gender and age for more on this.
  • I have also created another shiny app that scores CORE-OM item data . This takes an Excel file of the format I created to score CORE-OM data collected with Microsoft forms. This is proof of concept really and should be followed by apps allowing CORE-OM, and then other CORE measure, item scores to be uploaded and scored. It gives all the CORE-OM scores including the CORE-6D utility score and also gives the scores for the embedded items of all the shorter adult measures that are derived from the CORE-OM.

CORE related papers out of my work with Prof. Paz and UDLA

These are the ones since 2022, most are open access but I’m happy to send copies of the others if you contact me.

Things tangential to CORE but useful for some list members

  • The glossary that goes with our book (Evans, C., & Carlyle, J. (2021). Outcome measures and evaluation in counselling and psychotherapy (1st ed.). SAGE Publishing. https://ombook.psyctc.org/book/) is at 329 entries and continues to expand.
  • My Rblog, which gives much more detailed expansion of some topics in psychometrics, therapy research, always with R code, is also continuing to expand. Have a look!
  • As well as the two CORE specific shiny apps, there are other interactive apps here.
